Hypnotherapy for Childbirth & After Childbirth, Edinburgh

It was whilst having my own children that I discovered Hypnotherapy and the huge benefits it offers during this life-changing experience. I was so blown away by using Hypnotherapy for childbirth, I decided to train as a Hypnotherapist myself and in order to be able to help other women.

Having a baby is such a magical time, but it can also feel stressful and scary. And feelings in general are often amplified during pregnancy. Hypnotherapy can help you and your partner feel calm and relaxed during your pregnancy, and to ease any fears and anxieties you may have. It is extremely safe and can help to support you both mentally and physically as you prepare for the birth of your baby.

Pregnancy and Childbirth

As a clinical Hypnotherapist I am passionate about empowering women and their partners to feel calm, confident and in control at such a special time. It’s so important for mums-to-be to be well-informed and confident about their birth. This goes a huge way to helping you to feel relaxed and calm during both your pregnancy and labour.

We know that feelings of anxiety can set off fear. And when we feel fear, our muscles tense. This tension makes contractions harder and more painful, and increasingly more so with each contraction.

High levels of stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol can reduce our beneficial, happy hormones, like oxytocin, which is important for contractions and endorphins. These are our brain’s natural pain relievers. The lower the levels in our body, the greater the risk of a slower labour, and with it, increased pain perception.

The good news is that by minimising our stress hormones and boosting our happy hormones through relaxation tools and techniques, we can positively impact the child-birth experience as a whole. Leading to less perceived pain and a smoother labour. And a calmer mother means a happier, healthier baby.

Hypnotherapy for birth can help with:

Hypnotherapy can help with:

  • Feeling calmer during pregnancy, labour and after the birth of your baby.
  • Mums often bounce back quicker as the physical impact of giving birth can be reduced.
  • Hypnobirthing – teaching self-hypnosis techniques that can be used during childbirth to cope with pain and anxiety enabling deep relaxation and focus.
  • Less medical interventions, helping your baby develop naturally and easily after they arrive, and labour is often shorter.
  • You will feel more in control of your birth and therefore likely to have a more comfortable experience.
  • Your birth partner will learn how to support you and have a central and active role in the birth.
  • Benefits for baby – reducing exposure to excessive stress hormones in utero, better oxygenation and potentially smoother transition into life in the wider world.
